Africa 2008

I’m off to Africa! My good friend Sue and I will be headed down to Tanzania to work in a school and orphanage. We leave July 12th and I return Aug 21st- just before my birthday!

Egypt

Sue and I will be Spending four and a half days getting to learn about the wonders of Egypt. We’ll spend most of the time in Cairo but we’ll travel down to Luxor for a night so that we can see the Valley of the Kings and Queens.

Agenda:

  • The Sphinx & Pyramids of Giza
  • Memphis, Sakkara, and Dashur
  • Tour through Old Cairo and the bazaars
  • Faluka ride along the Nile
  • Egyptian Museaum
  • Vally of the Kings and Queens (where King Tut’s Tumb is)
  • Karnak Temple

 

 

 Volunteering in Tanzania

 

Sue and I will be Volunteering with Cross Cultural Solutions.

We’re still awaiting details about our exact palcement but we know we will be working with Children.

We get the weekends off. Sue and I will be using one of our weekends to visit a neighbor, Mt. Kilimanjaro. We’ll be staying at the Mt Kilimanjaro Lodge. We’ll spend the weekend getting to know the Chagga Tribe, visiting the banana & coffee plantation and hiking in the forests.  A trek up teh mountain takes more then a week so this will be our only expeirence with one of the true wonders of the world!

Day 1
Arusha / Tarangire National Park

Today you will depart Arusha, traveling southwest through the Maasai Steppe to

Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s fourth largest.

 

 

  • Afternoon wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 2
Tarangire National Park

Spend another day in Tarangire National Park, viewing some of Tanzania’s l

argest populations of elephant and enjoying the diverse scenery, including

the dramatic baobab trees that are so typical of the park.

 

 

  • Full day wildlife viewing in Tarangire National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Tarangire Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 3
Tarangire / Ngorongoro Crater

Make your way to the Ngorongoro Crater, a geological marvel boasting

several vegetation zones from lakes to forest to savannah and being

home to about 30,000 animals, despite its tiny size of only 10 miles across.

 

 

  • Morning wildlife viewing as you depart Tarangire
  • Afternoon wildlife viewing at Ngorongoro Crater
  • Overnight: Thomson Ngorongoro Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater

Take advantage of your optimally located Nyumba and spend another

day on the crater floor, searching out lion, hippo, the rare black rhino,

hyena, wildebeest, zebra, African buffalo and much more.

 

 

  • Full day of wildlife viewing on the floor of Ngorongoro Crater
  • Overnight: Thomson Ngorongoro Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 5
Oduvai Gorge / Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, continue your journey into the heart of Tanzania by

heading west, toward the Serengeti Plains.

 

 

  • Brief stop at Olduvai Gorge
  • Morning wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 6
Serengeti National Park

Enjoy the vastness of the Serengeti “the land that flows on forever”

along with some of the best game-viewing that Africa has to offer.

 

 

  • Full day of wildlife viewing in Serengeti National Park
  • Hot Air Ballon Ride
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 7
Serengeti National Park

Enjoy another day of wildlife viewing from a second location deep in the Serengeti.

Home to literally hundreds of thousands of hoofed animals, the Serengeti is

pristine and unique sanctuary that will give you a glimpse into “the world

as it was in the beginning.”

 

 

  • Full day of wildlife viewing
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba

 

 

 

 

Day 8
Serengeti National Park

Spanning nearly 6,000 square miles, the Serengeti has even more to

offer you today. With your skilled guides at the helm, the game viewing

promises to be interesting on this last day of your adventure.

 

 

  • Full day of wildlife viewing
  • Overnight: Thomson Serengeti Nyumba
